I’ve been working with Emily since March 2025, and it’s easily the best investment I’ve made in myself in a long time. I discovered Chews Food Wisely after getting less-than-ideal lab results from my annual exam and feeling overwhelmed about how to change my eating habits. I was also genuinely curious about understanding my body better. Emily has been incredible at breaking down my lab results and making everything easy to understand. I’ve learned so much from her, and she’s helped me tailor my eating habits to support my specific needs. This review is long overdue but definitely a testimony to how wonderful Nicole is. Our journey with her began in 2021 after chasing answers for ten years. My daughter had a lot of health issues that were never properly diagnosed. She saw multiple doctors, specialists, had lots of bloodwork, and other testing along the way. The result was always the same - your results are within the levels. Needless to say we had almost given up hope. I started with Nicole & Emily in April 2025 and got my period Sep 2025. I was on hormonal birth control over 10+ years and got off it for 1.5 years with no cycle the WHOLE TIME. I met with countless gynecologists & fertility specialists to see if they could guide me in the right direction to find the root cause but the only answer they could provide me was that my age (40) was the reason I didn't have a cycle. I came to all the doctors with a spreadsheet of my historical labs/hormones (that wildly fluctuated, even when I did labs 4 weeks in a row). Not only was I dismissed, no one even bothered to look at the labs I did provide. I started acupuncture in October 2024 and my symptoms improved but still no cycle so I knew I needed extra help to learn how to fuel myself properly. I went down the rabbit hole and learned about Hypothalamic Amenorrhea and discovered I was unintentionally undereating 700-800 calories after I started keeping track of my intake. I had been eating this way since I was a kid. I was constantly tired, needing to take naps in the afternoons, it was so bad even my prescribed stimulant wouldn't work. My symptoms that I assumed were normal because it was how I had been functioning for years and body got used to it? Afternoon energy crashes, constantly freezing cold hands & feet, waking up in the middle of the night at 2-4 am and not being able to fall back to sleep, brittle nails, hair loss (my hair stylist commented on it several times), lackluster skin, constipation, irregular bowel movements. After talking with several nutritionists I was on the fence with, I reached out to my friend Tori to ask her for a referral and she led me to ChewsFoodWisely. I sent her my historical labs and she did a brief overview on where there are potential indicators of deficiencies. It was the first time I felt heard. My labs were not ideal and she pointed out key numbers and how they correlated with each other but we needed more in depth labs to truly get an understanding of what I needed specifically. At no point was I pressured to "sign up" or work with them. It was time that I invested in my health and did the weekly payment plan. We did micronutrient testing, gut microbiome testing, hair analysis and sure enough all of my results came back with the results I suspected. Nutritional deficiencies and chronic inflammation. Nicole & Emily came up with a protocol to add specific vitamins and supplements and we worked on increasing my food intake that was sustainable. It wasn't easy, especially in the beginning but they worked with what I enjoyed and could eat. I started easy, making sure I ate breakfast even if it was just a cup of bone broth. Then increased to bone broth with a little bit of chicken and veggies. I tried yogurt but discovered we are NOT friends. Emily was so encouraging and would help point out things I could add to my picture food journals to create a balanced meal. We had some moments where some foods I was eating just didn't sit right with me but so thankful the team could provide alternatives without me sitting here trying to spin my wheels. Slowly but surely I saw changes in my body. My nails were growing, my stomach would rumble in the morning when I woke up (hello, please feed me!) and my gut health/bowel movements got better, and one day I realized I wasn't getting an afternoon crash! I had to adjust my mindset on how much food to BUY in order to even have enough protein, fruit, veggies, carbs (our friend!) to have at home to eat.
