Frequently Asked Questions

If you are here, it probably means you want answers. You want to understand why you feel exhausted, bloated, foggy, hormonal, or stuck in a body that does not match your effort. At Chews Food Wisely, we help you make sense of your symptoms and teach you how to nourish your body in a way that feels realistic, sustainable, and personal to your biochemistry.

🌿What to Know Before Starting Functional Nutrition Coaching

We help you understand what your body has been trying to tell you and turn that into a clear, realistic plan. At the core of that plan is nutrition, because your food choices are one of the most powerful ways you communicate safety, stability, and nourishment to your body every single day.

We look at how you are eating now, how often you are eating, how balanced your meals are, and how that connects to your energy, digestion, hormones, and mood. Then we teach you how to build meals and rhythms that support your thyroid, hormones, gut, and nervous system instead of working against them.

As functional dietitians, we use nutritional biochemistry and functional lab interpretation to create long term plans that feel doable, not extreme. You are not just told what to do. You learn why it matters so you can make confident choices every day.

Coaching with us is a good fit if you are ready to work on your habits, not just chase the next supplement or quick fix. You are a good fit if you are willing to look at how you are eating, how often you are eating, and how stress and sleep are affecting your body, even if that feels a little vulnerable.

You do not need to be perfect. You just need to be willing to learn and take small, consistent steps with food and daily routines. We work especially well with women who feel dismissed, who have been told their labs are normal, or who feel like they have tried everything and still do not feel like themselves.

It may be time to get support if you notice:

  • Chronic fatigue or burnout, even when you are sleeping
  • Bloating, constipation, loose stools, or feeling puffy after meals
  • Brain fog, anxiety, irritability, or low mood
  • Heavy, painful, or irregular cycles
  • Stubborn weight changes or “feeling puffy” despite your effort
  • Cold hands and feet, hair shedding, skin changes, or acne

These are common signs that your thyroid, hormones, gut, and blood sugar are asking for support. Food patterns, meal timing, and under nourishment are often a big part of the root cause, which is exactly where we help you rebuild.

Many traditional approaches focus on calories, macros, or short term weight goals. We focus on nourishment, safety, and long term metabolic health.

As functional dietitians, we look at how your current food patterns are affecting your blood sugar, stress hormones, thyroid signaling, gut health, and inflammation. Then we teach you how to build meals that are realistic, satisfying, and supportive so you are not constantly starting over.

Instead of handing you a rigid meal plan, we help you create simple frameworks and habits that fit your real life and actually stick.

You do not need hours of free time or a perfect kitchen routine. You do need a little space to think about your meals, prepare simple options, and check in with how your body responds.

Most clients make progress by using meal frameworks, basic grocery lists, and small routine shifts like eating breakfast, adding protein, or spacing meals more evenly. Our job is to help you find the easiest path that still supports your body.

🧬Lab Testing Questions

Not always. Many women feel a lot better with nutrition and lifestyle shifts alone. We recommend lab testing when your symptoms and history suggest that we need deeper clarity to move forward.

Labs help us see how your body is handling blood sugar, inflammation, detox, hormones, and nutrient status underneath the surface. That information lets us be more precise with your nutrition and long term plan.

Depending on your symptoms and goals, we may use:

  • Blood micronutrient testing looking at intra and extra cellular levels
  • Full thyroid panel beyond TSH alone
  • Lipid panel to understand cholesterol and fat metabolism
  • Complete blood count to assess oxygen carrying capacity and more
  • Blood sugar screens and insulin related markers
  • Inflammation markers
  • Detox and liver related markers
  • Stool testing such as GI MAP
  • DUTCH hormone testing
  • HTMA mineral analysis

We also review any past labs you already have so we are not repeating testing you do not need.

Yes. We encourage you to bring past labs. They often contain helpful information about thyroid function, iron status, blood sugar, inflammation, and more.

We interpret them through a functional lens and then decide together if additional testing would add value. From there, your nutrition and lifestyle plan is tailored to what your labs and symptoms are both telling us.

We translate your labs into plain language and connect them to your symptoms, food patterns, and daily rhythms. You learn what your numbers mean, where your body might be compensating, and how nutrition can move the needle.

Labs help us personalize your plan so you are not guessing about what to eat or which habits matter most for your body.

💳Payment and Investment Questions

We do not bill insurance directly. Functional nutrition care is often more comprehensive than what insurance is set up to cover. Instead of short, rushed visits, you receive education, time, and support that focus on root causes and long term health.

Yes. Many clients use HSA or FSA cards for services and eligible lab testing. We can provide detailed receipts that you can submit to your plan when appropriate.

Yes. We offer payment options so your care feels more accessible and sustainable. You will see the investment clearly outlined before you commit so there are no surprises.

1 to 1 coaching includes regular visits, private chat support, habit coaching, food logging feedback, and hands on education. It is ideal if you want support not only understanding your body, but also putting the plan into daily action.

Lab Bundles are designed for self driven women who want data and direction. They do not include live visits, but you receive personalized recorded reviews, written protocols, and functional interpretation of your lab results so you can implement the plan at your own pace.

📋What to Expect During the Process of Working Together

Working with our team is a high touch, education based experience. We teach you realistic habits that fit your life and support your physiology. No rigid meal plans, no all or nothing rules, just real guidance and support.

  • Initial Assessment: We take a deep look at your symptoms, history, digestion, food patterns, stress, labs, and daily routines so we can see the full picture.
  • Functional Lab Testing: When needed, we use blood work and specialty labs to understand what your body is asking for and how nutrition can best support you.
  • Bi Weekly Visits: In the early phase we meet every other week to teach you how to eat for your biology, balance blood sugar, support gut health, and fine tune habits.
  • Private Chat Support: You can message us between sessions for questions, feedback, and support as life happens.
  • Written Protocols: After each visit you receive clear written guidance that explains what to do and why it matters so you understand the “why” behind each step.
  • Food Logging Feedback: If you choose to log meals, we give supportive feedback to help you build balanced, satisfying meals that fit your real life.
  • Simple Meal Frameworks: You get flexible meal templates and recipe ideas that make it easier to nourish yourself consistently, even on busy days.
  • Maintenance Phase: As you feel better, we shift to less frequent visits so you stay supported while living your life with more ease.

Our goal is to teach you how to understand and support your body so the changes you make actually last.

Many women notice early shifts within a few weeks, such as less bloating, more stable energy, or better bowel movements as we stabilize meals and support blood sugar. Deeper hormone and thyroid changes often take several months because we are rebuilding your foundation, not just masking symptoms.

We focus on steady, sustainable progress so you feel better not just this month, but years from now.

With 1 to 1 coaching, you have access to private chat support between visits. That means you can ask questions, share wins, and get guidance when real life does not go according to plan, instead of waiting weeks to get clarity.

You are not alone. Many women come to us feeling discouraged and frustrated. Once we connect your symptoms with your labs, food patterns, stress load, and daily rhythms, things finally start to make sense.

Your body is not broken. It often just needs the right support, in the right order, with a nutrition plan and daily habits that actually fit your life.

Still Have Questions?
