If you found your way here, there’s a good chance you’re exhausted in a way that sleep just doesn’t fix. Maybe you’ve got a Hashimoto’s, PCOS, or thyroid diagnosis and you’re still waiting to actually feel better. Maybe you’ve been told your labs are “fine” while you feel anything but. You’re not imagining it, and you’re not alone. At Chews Food Wisely, we look at the full picture — your labs, your symptoms, your life — and build a realistic plan that actually explains what’s going on and gets you moving in the right direction.

Is this right for me?

What does Chews Food Wisely actually do?

We help you figure out what your body has been trying to tell you, and then build a clear, realistic plan around that. If you’re living with Hashimoto’s, PCOS, a thyroid disorder, high cholesterol, blood sugar issues, or weight loss resistance, you already know that generic advice doesn’t cut it. Your body has specific needs, and food is one of the most powerful tools you have to support it every single day.

We look at how you’re eating, how often, how balanced your meals are, and how all of that connects to your energy, digestion, hormones, and mood. Then we show you how to build meals and routines that actually work with your biology, not against it.

As functional dietitians and certified nutrition specialists, we use nutritional biochemistry and functional lab interpretation to build long-term plans that feel doable. Because a plan you can’t stick to isn’t actually a plan.

Who is functional nutrition coaching a good fit for?

We work best with women between 25 and 65 who are done guessing and ready to get real answers. If you’re dealing with low energy, stubborn bloat, brain fog, weight that won’t budge, painful or irregular periods, stubborn acne, or a diagnosis like Hashimoto’s, PCOS, thyroid disease, or high cholesterol, and you’ve tried the diets and the supplements and still feel stuck, you’re exactly who we had in mind when we built this practice.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to be willing to look honestly at your habits and take some consistent steps forward. We meet you exactly where you are.

Do you work with women who don’t have a diagnosis yet?

Absolutely. In fact, a huge portion of the women we work with come to us without any official diagnosis. They have a stack of “normal” labs, a long list of symptoms, and a strong sense that something is off. They’re tired of being told they’re fine when they don’t feel fine.

You do not need a diagnosis to work with us. Our job is to look at what your body is actually doing, connect the dots between your symptoms and what we find in deeper testing, and build a plan from there. Many women find clarity through this process that they were never able to get from a 15-minute doctor’s visit.

Can I work with you if I’m already seeing a doctor or endocrinologist?

Yes, and we encourage it. We are not a replacement for your medical team. We are the nutrition piece that most medical teams don’t have time to provide.

If you’re on thyroid medication, hormone therapy, or any other prescriptions, we work alongside your doctor’s plan. We focus on the food, lifestyle, and root-cause work that helps your medications work better and addresses the parts of your symptom picture that medication alone can’t fix. We never advise you to stop or change a prescription. That conversation belongs with your prescribing doctor.

What symptoms tell me it’s time to get support?

If any of these sound like your daily life, it’s probably time:

  • Fatigue that doesn’t improve no matter how much you sleep
  • Bloating, constipation, loose stools, or feeling puffy after meals
  • Brain fog, anxiety, irritability, or low mood you just can’t shake
  • Heavy, painful, or irregular periods
  • Weight that won’t move despite your best efforts
  • Cold hands and feet, hair shedding, dry skin, or stubborn acne
  • A diagnosis of Hashimoto’s, PCOS, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, or insulin resistance where you still don’t feel well even with treatment

These aren’t random or “just stress.” They’re signs that your thyroid, hormones, gut, and blood sugar need targeted support, and food is often a huge, overlooked piece of that puzzle.

What conditions do you specialize in?

Our practice is built around women’s metabolic, thyroid, and hormone health. The specific conditions we work with most often include:

  • Hashimoto’s and other autoimmune thyroid conditions
  • Hypothyroidism (diagnosed or “subclinical”)
  • PCOS and related insulin resistance
  • Estrogen dominance and other sex hormone imbalances
  • Heavy, painful, or irregular periods
  • Weight loss resistance and stubborn metabolism issues
  • Chronic fatigue and burnout
  • Gut issues, bloating, and food sensitivities
  • Migraines and chronic headaches
  • Brain fog and cognitive symptoms
  • High cholesterol and metabolic syndrome

If you’re not sure whether your situation fits, just apply and we’ll tell you honestly on the call. We’d rather refer you out than take you on if we’re not the right team for you.

Do you work with men?

Our practice is built specifically for women, and almost all of our clinical training and lab interpretation is centered on female physiology, hormones, and life stages. We are not currently taking on male clients.

If you’re looking for support for a man in your life, we’re happy to point you toward functional medicine practitioners, dietitians, and certified nutrition specialists who work with men. Just email us at hello@chewsfoodwisely.com.

How is this different from a regular dietitian or generic meal plan?

If you have Hashimoto’s, PCOS, or weight loss resistance, you’ve probably already learned that calorie counting and generic meal plans don’t work for your body. That’s not a willpower problem. That’s a physiology problem, and it’s exactly what we specialize in.

As functional dietitians and certified nutrition specialists, we look at how your food patterns are affecting your blood sugar, stress hormones, thyroid signaling, gut health, cholesterol, and inflammation. Then we show you how to build meals that are realistic, satisfying, and actually supportive of your specific situation.

Instead of handing you a rigid plan and sending you on your way, we help you build flexible habits that fit your real life. Because that’s what actually sticks.

How does the process actually work?

What happens after I apply?

Once we receive your application, we’ll reach out to schedule a casual, no-pressure phone call. Think of it as a conversation, not an interview. We want to hear your story: what you’ve been dealing with, what you’ve already tried, and what’s feeling most urgent right now.

On that call, you’ll get to ask us anything too. We’ll talk through what working together could look like, and from there we put together a unique plan of action designed to get you closer to your goals as quickly and realistically as possible. No cookie-cutter programs, no guesswork. Just a clear path forward built around you.

What does a typical session look like?

Sessions are virtual, conversational, and built around what you’re actually navigating that week. There’s no script and there’s no homework grading. You’re not going to be lectured at.

In a typical session, we review how the previous two weeks have gone, talk through what’s been working and what’s been hard, look at any food logs or symptom tracking you’ve shared, and then teach the next layer of what your body needs. Every session ends with a clear written plan so you know exactly what to focus on before we meet again.

Most women tell us it feels less like an appointment and more like sitting down with a knowledgeable friend who happens to have your labs in front of her.

Will I work with Nicole or Emily?

Both. You get both of us on your case, which is one of the things that makes working with us a little different.

Emily hosts the majority of your video calls, bringing her deep clinical expertise in functional nutrition, fertility, and hormone health to the work we do together face to face. Behind the scenes, Nicole and Emily collaborate on your protocol building, food logging feedback, lab interpretation, and ongoing chat support. So you’re not just getting one practitioner’s perspective on your situation. You’re getting both of ours, working together on your case from start to finish.

How much support do I get between sessions?

With 1:1 coaching, you have access to private chat support between visits, with both Nicole and Emily. That means you can ask questions, share wins, troubleshoot a hard week, or get feedback when real life doesn’t go according to plan, instead of waiting two weeks to get clarity.

Managing something like Hashimoto’s or PCOS can feel really isolating. We want you to know you always have someone to reach out to, not just on appointment days.

How much time and energy do I need to commit?

We know you’re already exhausted. The last thing we want to do is pile a complicated protocol on top of that. You don’t need a perfectly organized kitchen or hours of free time. You just need a little space to think about your meals, prep some simple options, and pay attention to how your body responds.

Most of our clients make real progress through meal frameworks, basic grocery lists, and small shifts like eating breakfast, adding more protein, or spacing meals more evenly. Our job is to find the easiest path that still actually moves the needle for your body.

How long does it usually take to start feeling better?

A lot of women notice early wins within the first few weeks, less bloating, more stable energy, better digestion, as we stabilize meals and support blood sugar. For conditions like Hashimoto’s, PCOS, or thyroid disorders, deeper hormone and metabolic shifts often take several months, because we’re rebuilding your foundation, not just masking symptoms.

We focus on steady, sustainable progress so you feel better not just this month, but years from now. This isn’t a quick fix. It’s a long game, and it is absolutely worth it.

What about testing?

Do I have to do lab testing to work with you?

Not always. Some women feel significantly better with nutrition and lifestyle shifts alone. But for conditions like Hashimoto’s, PCOS, thyroid disorders, high cholesterol, or weight loss resistance, labs often give us the deeper clarity we need to really move the needle.

Labs help us see how your body is actually handling blood sugar, inflammation, detox, hormones, and nutrient status, the stuff that doesn’t show up in a standard checkup. That information lets us be a lot more precise with your plan instead of just guessing.

What labs do you typically run?

It depends on your symptoms and goals, but here’s a look at what we might use:

  • Blood micronutrient testing (intra- and extra-cellular levels)
  • Full thyroid panel, not just TSH, because TSH alone doesn’t tell the whole story, especially with Hashimoto’s
  • Lipid panel to understand cholesterol and fat metabolism more deeply
  • Complete blood count for oxygen-carrying capacity and more
  • Blood sugar screens and insulin-related markers, especially important for PCOS and weight loss resistance
  • Inflammation markers
  • Detox and liver-related markers
  • Stool testing (GI MAP) for gut health
  • DUTCH hormone testing
  • HTMA mineral analysis

We also review any past labs you already have. No need to repeat testing you’ve already done.

Can you use labs I already have from my doctor?

Yes, please bring them! If you’ve been managing Hashimoto’s, PCOS, thyroid issues, or high cholesterol for a while, you probably already have a stack of labs. We interpret them through a functional lens, which often reveals things a standard review misses, and then we decide together whether additional testing would add value. Your plan gets built around what your labs and your symptoms are both telling us.

What do you actually do with the lab results?

We translate them into plain language. No confusing jargon, promise. Then we connect your numbers to your symptoms, food patterns, and daily rhythms so you actually understand what’s going on in your body and why you’ve been feeling the way you feel.

For women with conditions like Hashimoto’s or PCOS, this is often the first time things finally start to make sense. Labs take the guesswork out of your plan so you know exactly what to focus on and why.

Nutrition and food

Will you put me on a strict diet or make me cut out foods I love?

No. Restrictive diets are usually part of what got you here in the first place, and we are not going to add another one.

Our approach is the opposite. We focus on adding the things your body is missing (protein, specific nutrients, balanced meals, steady blood sugar) and we let your body do the work of recalibrating from there. Most clients are surprised by how much they get to eat with us, not how little.

Sometimes specific foods do need to come out temporarily, especially if we find something on labs like an active gut infection or a true food sensitivity. But that’s targeted and time-limited, not a lifestyle of restriction.

Do I have to give up coffee, wine, sugar, gluten, or dairy?

Probably not all of them, and probably not forever. We meet you where you are.

Some foods do affect thyroid and hormone health more than others, and we’ll have honest conversations about which of your habits are likely helping and which might be slowing your progress. But “you can never have gluten again” is rarely the answer we land on. We’d rather help you understand how your body responds to different foods so you can make informed choices that fit your real life, including the occasional glass of wine on a Saturday night.

Do you do meal plans?

Not the rigid, hand-you-a-binder kind of meal plans. Those don’t work for real life, and most women we see have tried them before with frustrating results.

What we do instead is teach you meal frameworks. We’ll show you what a thyroid-supportive plate actually looks like, how to balance protein, carbs, and fats for steady energy, and how to mix and match ingredients you already have or already love. We give you recipes and grocery suggestions, but the goal is always to make you confident enough to feed yourself well without needing us to tell you what to eat at every meal.

What if my family eats differently than I do?

This is one of the most common worries we hear, and it’s a fixable problem. You don’t have to cook two separate dinners, and you don’t have to convert your family to your way of eating.

Most of what we build is structured around real-life meals that work for a household. We help you find the overlap between what your body needs and what your family will actually eat. Picky kids, teenage appetites, a husband who’s not interested in changing anything, we’ve navigated all of it. Your plan flexes around your real kitchen, not the other way around.

I have a history of disordered eating. Is this safe for me?

Thank you for asking this. It’s an important question and we take it seriously.

Our approach is built around adding, not restricting. We do not focus on weight loss as a primary goal, we do not count calories, and we do not give meal plans designed around shrinking. Many of our clients have come to us with a complicated history with food, and they’ve found this work to be healing rather than triggering, because it reorients the conversation toward what your body needs to function well.

That said, we are not eating disorder specialists. If you are in active recovery or your relationship with food is currently fragile, please tell us on your application or initial call. Depending on where you are, we may recommend working alongside an eating disorder therapist, or we may suggest you focus on that work first before adding our piece. We will always be honest about what we think is safest for you.

If you are in immediate need of eating disorder support, the National Alliance for Eating Disorders offers a free helpline at 1-866-662-1235.

Money, insurance, and logistics

How much does it cost to work with Chews Food Wisely?

We know you’ve probably invested a lot already trying to figure this out, and we don’t take that lightly. Here’s a clear breakdown so there are zero surprises:

1:1 Coaching Programs. Programs run 2 to 6 months depending on your needs, eventually transitioning to as-needed monthly support. Total investment ranges from $1,500 to $4,500 depending on program length and which functional lab tests are included.

Monthly payment plans. We offer flexible payment plans ranging from $350 to $900 per month, again depending on length of care and lab testing included.

Lab Bundles. Self-paced options are available for women who want functional lab interpretation and a clear protocol without live visits. Pricing varies by panel.

After your application and initial call, we’ll have a clear enough picture to recommend the most efficient path forward for your specific situation, and we’ll walk you through exactly what that investment looks like before you commit to anything.

Do you take insurance?

We don’t bill insurance directly. Functional nutrition care is a lot more comprehensive than what insurance is typically set up to cover. Rather than quick, rushed visits, you get real education, real time, and real root-cause support, especially important when you’re managing something complex like Hashimoto’s, PCOS, or weight loss resistance.

That said, we provide Superbills (itemized receipts) that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Yes! Many of our clients use HSA or FSA cards for services and eligible lab testing. We can provide detailed receipts for you to submit to your plan when appropriate. It’s one of the easiest ways to make this feel more accessible.

What’s the difference between 1:1 coaching and a Lab Bundle?

1:1 coaching is our most comprehensive option. It includes bi-weekly visits, private chat support, food logging feedback, habit coaching, and hands-on education built around your specific labs and symptoms. If you’re managing something like Hashimoto’s, PCOS, or weight loss resistance and you want someone in your corner day to day, not just at appointments, this is the right fit.

Lab Bundles are designed for self-driven women who want data and a clear direction but prefer to implement on their own. There are no live visits, but you get a personalized recorded review, written protocols, and a functional interpretation of your results so you can move forward at your own pace.

Can I do this from anywhere?

Almost. Our practice is fully virtual, so you can work with us from the comfort of your own home, no office visits required.

We are currently able to accept clients located anywhere in the United States, with the exception of New York State, due to state-specific licensing regulations. If you’re located in New York and would still like to explore options, email hello@chewsfoodwisely.com and we’ll let you know what we can offer.

Lab testing is shipped to your home (for at-home kits) or completed at a local lab draw station near you. You’ll never need to travel to an office.

What’s your refund policy?

Because our programs include time-intensive prep work, lab orders, and personalized protocols, we don’t offer full refunds once a program has begun. That said, we want you to feel confident before you commit, which is why we never accept clients who haven’t first had a real conversation with us on the phone.

If you’re on a payment plan and something major changes in your life, reach out. We’ve worked through pauses, plan adjustments, and other accommodations with clients before, and we always try to find something workable.

What if I need to pause or reschedule?

Life happens. We ask for 24 hours notice on session reschedules whenever possible, and we’ll always do our best to find another time that works for you the same week or the next.

If something bigger is going on (a medical situation, a family crisis, a major life change), we have paused programs before. Just be in honest communication with us and we’ll figure it out together.

The harder questions

What if I’ve tried everything and I’m scared this won’t work either?

We hear this all the time, and we mean it when we say you are not alone. So many of the women we work with have seen multiple doctors, tried multiple diets, and still feel dismissed or stuck. When you’re dealing with something like Hashimoto’s, PCOS, or weight loss resistance, cookie-cutter advice rarely gets to the root of what’s actually going on.

Once we look at your symptoms alongside your labs, your food patterns, your stress, and your daily rhythms, things start to make sense in a way they probably haven’t before. Your body is not broken. It just needs the right support, in the right order, from someone who actually understands your diagnosis. That’s exactly what we’re here for.

And if at any point we don’t think we can help you, we’ll tell you. We’d rather refer you out than waste your time and money.

What if I can’t afford this right now?

We hear you, and we want to be honest with you. This is real, comprehensive care, and the investment reflects that. We can’t make it free, and we won’t pretend the cost isn’t real.

What we can do is help you think it through. Our payment plans break the investment into monthly amounts that work like a regular bill. HSA and FSA funds are often eligible. Some clients find that the money they’ve been spending on supplements, programs, and one-off labs that didn’t help actually adds up to more than working with us would cost.

If working with us 1:1 truly isn’t in the cards right now, our Lab Bundles offer a lower-cost entry point, and our blog and podcast have a lot of free education we put real care into. The door is never closed. When the timing is right, we’ll be here.

What makes you different from all the other thyroid coaches on Instagram?

The honest answer? Credentials, clinical depth, and accountability.

Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) and Certified Nutrition Specialists (CNS) are among the only nutrition professionals required to complete a degree, supervised clinical training, a board exam, and ongoing continuing education in our scope of practice. We are licensed and held accountable by regulatory bodies. That doesn’t make us better humans, but it does mean we are trained in the nutritional biochemistry and clinical reasoning that this work actually requires.

Beyond credentials, our practice is built on listening to you first and prescribing second. We are not a protocol-in-a-box. We don’t sell a single supplement line and we don’t push products. The plan we build is yours, based on your body, your labs, and your life.

Do you have any guarantees?

No, and we’d be skeptical of any health practitioner who does.

Your body is an individual system with its own history, genetics, stressors, and responses. We can absolutely promise that we’ll show up fully, use the best clinical reasoning we have, listen carefully, and adjust your plan based on how your body actually responds. We can’t promise an exact outcome, because nobody honest can.

What we can tell you is that the vast majority of women who do the work with us see meaningful improvement in their symptoms, their energy, and their relationship with their bodies. The work is real, and so are the results.

Ready to finally get some answers?

You’ve been managing your symptoms long enough. If you’re ready for a plan built around your actual diagnosis, support from people who genuinely get it, and a clear path forward that fits your real life, we’d love to hear from you.
